After my initial training as an Office Assistant at North Island College in Courtenay, I began a work placement program with Sandra Bonner of Business Aide. Sandra’s mentorship was immensely valuable in my growth as a bookkeeper and I was able to work on a variety of different types of books for a variety of different companies.
In 2003, after the birth of my first child and with the full support of my husband, I started Banking On It Bookkeeping as a bridge between my passion for bookkeeping and my wish to be at home to raise my children.
Over the years, it has been my pleasure to assist start-up businesses, non-profit organizations and well established companies of various sizes with their bookkeeping and payroll needs.
In 2018, I moved my business to a commercial location and, at one point, was operating with a staff of four. However, I face the same challenges every other business does, and finding and keeping staff with the necessary dedication and training proved to be an insurmountable hurdle. In the spring of 2019 I moved the business back to my home base.
In the early fall of 2021, I found myself back to where it all began, as a one woman bookkeeping machine responsible for myself and myself only. As all business owners come to learn, you must take leaps of faith to see where things will go and sometimes, it just doesn’t work out.
Today, I am a happily married mother of two with a home-based bookkeeping business and happy relationship with my customers while working on maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
